This is the tale of a miracle
This tale is the greatest story of all
It began when the Angel Gabriel
Was sent to a town that was very small
To a girl named Mary, who was very young.
“Hello Mary,” he said, “You are the one,”
You’ve been chosen by God to become a mum
To a baby named Jesus, he’ll be God’s Son!
He’ll be King of Kings and the Saviour too.
Mary was shocked and said, “I’m so confused,
I’m only a girl, How can this be?”
Gabriel replied, “Don’t worry, Mary
The new life within you, You’ll soon see
Is made by God for his wonderful plan
To save the world, soon you’ll understand.
For No promise from God will ever fail
His good purposes will prevail.
“I’m God’s servant,” Mary said, “May it be so.”
Now Mary was engaged to a man named Joe
Who was shocked by this news and angry too
He really wasn’t sure what he would do.
But then Gabriel in a dream appeared
And said to him, “Joseph, please do not fear
For God has planted this seed of life
So take Mary home to be your wife.”
And that’s what he did, but then nine months on
When the time came for the baby to be born
A census was called of the empire of Rome
Everyone was sent to the place they called home
Joseph came from the town of Bethlehem
Which meant a very long journey for them.
So they got ready and off they set
Praying that the baby wasn’t coming just yet.
Thankfully they made it safe and sound
And a suitable place for them was found
To have the baby, and so he was born,
wrapped up in cloths, so he would be warm,
and laid in a manger – a feeding trough
They didn’t mind a bit, though it was rough.
Meanwhile out in the fields were shepherds and sheep
Who were startled out of their very deep sleep
By a very bright light that shone everywhere
and an angel who had this message to share –
“Don’t be afraid, for I bring you good news
of great joy for mankind, that includes you!
A Saviour’s been born in Bethlehem town,
lying in a manger, where he can be found
Wrapped in cloths, this is God’s sign for you.”
Then suddenly appeared, out of the blue
A choir of angels, praising God with him
“Glory to God in the highest heaven”
peace on earth to those on whom God’s favour rests.”
The shepherds were shocked, but when the angels left
They said to each other, “we have to go
off to Bethlehem so that we can know
That what the angel has told us is true
This baby has been born for me and you.”
Off they hurried to find Mary and Joe
And found baby Jesus lying just so
Wrapped in cloths in his comfy manger bed.
Everything was as the angel had said.
Then they spread the word, they were filled with joy,
told all they met about this baby boy.
This baby boy, born for me and for you,
So we can discover God’s great love too.
Baby Jesus was born, this miracle,
As God’s gift of love, his gift for us all.
