In the beginning beat a heart
And the heart was life and the heart was love,
There was just love at the beginning
And love had to create
So create Love did – and with a Word
brought it all into being –
Countless stars, planets – a universe so vast –
beyond our imagination and comprehension.
and among the innumerable worlds chose just one where life would thrive
This planet – earth – came alive
An explosion of colour
a cacophony of sound
every detail, from the tiniest creature
to the vastest mountain plain
displaying his glory, showing his heart.
But that’s not all – that wasn’t enough
For the heart beat for more –
Love had to relate as well as create –
So, saving the best for last,
the heart reached from within
and made creatures who, at their best,
would be just like him …
Able to love, bring life,
whose hearts would beat just like his.
Together their hearts would beat as one
One heart, one life, one love.
And yet, these hearts had to choose to love
But so often, instead, these hearts chose hate
or simply chose love of self over love of others
and so, these hearts changed
Warm hearts grew cold
Soft hearts grew hard
Glad hearts became sad
And whole hearts broke
Lost hope.
But the heart that began it all
kept on beating,
kept sustaining
kept life-giving
and reached within once more
One Pure heart
became flesh and blood,
One of us.
Through this love heart cold hearts warmed
hard hearts softened
sad hearts gladdened
and broken hearts healed
They could become new.
Hope could return.
And hope lives on
This heart keeps beating
keeps sustaining
keeps life-giving
In you and me
in anyone who will receive him
His heart can become our heart
His love our love
Our heart could beat just like his.
Together our hearts would beat as one
One heart, one life, one love.
